You want this handled quickly and privately. Ordering abortion pills online looks like it fits. Before you do, there are a few health facts worth knowing. Schedule a free, confidential appointment at Hope Women’s Center first.
What’s in the Abortion Pill Regimen
The abortion pill uses two drugs. Mifepristone stops the pregnancy from progressing, while misoprostol causes the uterus to contract and expel the pregnancy through abdominal cramping and vaginal bleeding.
The FDA approves this regimen only through 10 weeks of pregnancy and does not recommend buying these drugs online.
The Risk of Unregulated Sources
Many online pharmacies ship from outside the US, where safety standards differ or don’t exist. There’s no way to verify:
- Whether the drug is what it claims to be
- Whether the dosage is correct
- Whether the instructions are complete or accurate
What an Ultrasound Tells You
Ordering online skips one step that directly affects your safety: an ultrasound. Without one, three questions go unanswered:
- How far along are you? Knowing your gestational age provides important information about your pregnancy, health, and available options.
- Is the pregnancy in your uterus? Abortion drugs cannot treat ectopic pregnancies, which require immediate medical care. An ultrasound can confirm the location of the pregnancy and identify concerns early.
- Are you still pregnant? About 1 in 4 known pregnancies end in miscarriage. A positive test cannot tell you whether the pregnancy is progressing or whether a heartbeat is present. An ultrasound can provide that information and help determine whether medical care is needed.
Skipping these steps raises the risk of complications, including incomplete abortion, heavy or prolonged bleeding, and infection.
A Note on Texas Law
Abortion is currently illegal in Texas except in cases of life endangerment, and state law restricts the mailing of abortion-inducing drugs. Women are not subject to criminal or civil penalties for seeking an abortion.
