When deciding your pregnancy outcome (abortion, adoption, or parenting), the more information you have, the better. This is why an ultrasound is essential as you evaluate your options. It provides valuable insights that can guide your choices, helping you avoid making decisions without clearly understanding your situation.

Keep reading to learn what exactly a free ultrasound screening at our center can provide you and how that affects your options.

Confirm Your Pregnancy’s Gestational Age

Based on the size of the fetus, an ultrasound can determine the exact gestational age of your pregnancy. If you are considering terminating the pregnancy, this is especially helpful because the abortion pill procedure is only FDA-approved through 10 weeks gestational age.

It’s also important to note that Texas bans abortion after fetal cardiac activity is detected (which can be detected via ultrasound), which is around six weeks gestational age.

Learn Whether or Not the Pregnancy is Progressing

An ultrasound can determine the viability or status of your pregnancy, providing you with the reassurance of whether or not the fetus is still growing.

About 1 in 4 of all pregnancies end in a natural miscarriage. If it’s confirmed that you miscarried,  a procedure called a dilation and curettage (D&C) may be recommended to ensure that the uterus is cleared of any remaining tissue. This helps reduce the risk of infection and other complications.

Identify the Pregnancy’s Location

Healthy pregnancies develop inside of the uterus. If the ultrasound detects that your pregnancy is growing outside the uterus, this is an ectopic pregnancy, a severe and life-threatening condition that early detection can prepare you for.

It will require medical intervention and should be addressed immediately.
